When your gutters are damaged, they allow water to build up around the sides of your home. As we know, water is the number one thing that is necessary to allow mold and mildew to flourish, as well as potentially cause roof damage underneath the shingles. In these cases, you may need to bring us in to help out, as this excess water is also the culprit behind exterior and interior mold and mildew. Excess water is a good indicator that your gutters aren’t functioning the way they should.
To combat the problem, your T&Z professional handyman will most likely use a two-prong approach. The first thing your handyman will do is clean or repair the gutter or gutters that aren’t working properly. Sometimes a simple gutter cleaning is all that is needed to remedy the excess water building up around the house.
The second thing your professional handyman will do is spray the areas affected by mold/mildew with a cleaning solution to kill the organisms that are causing it to spread. This solution usually contains bleach. They will also use an abrasive tough-scrubbing wire brush to remove it from your exterior.
While you can request that your handyman simply clean up the mold or mildew, this is not recommended for long-term avoidance. To ensure that exterior mold and mildew stay under control, be sure your professional T&Z handyman gets to the root of the problem: the gutters!
